                                                      Juror’s Statement

I was honored to be chosen to be juror for the 2008 South Carolina Fair Fine Art Exhibition.

 

What an outstanding showcase of artwork! That achievement is a credit to the cultural beauty that exists in South Carolina. A salute to all who submitted their art work, and thank you for your creative self- expression. This sure was not an easy exhibition to judge.

 

As the juror, it was a pleasure to participate in this exciting event. Congratulations to all artists who have shared their God given talents!

 

 What I needed to find was the works with the most artistic integrity and passion. A successful work of art needs to have a dialogue with the viewer. It needs to engage the viewer and make them want to stay and dwell with the work. My criteria are basically composition, theme, impact, color, skill and then how successfully those components are rolled into one.

 I also like to see strong technical ability. Those are the elements I was looking for.

 

Again, thank you for the privilege, opportunity and consideration. This exhibition is testimony to the talent in South Carolina and great support for the arts.                                                                        

 

 A special thanks to Wanda and David Phillips, Donna Gore and Jackie Brantley who made this kind of high level show possible. They were pleasant to work with and joy to be around. The hospitality and warmth of David and Wanda Philips made my time in Columbia memorable.
